An Answer to Simon Moores

Over on Thanet Life, Cllr Moores has posed a question to me.

"So let’s pause for thought for a second. Is Labour, in the formidable shape of Comrade Cllr Green, in favour of public sector pay rises in the present financial turmoil or does he believe that the public sector should show some level of leadership and restraint; given that the private sector is cutting pay and lacks the same pension benefits to look forward to?
My answer, is yes they should show restraint. I think there is a case for those on the lowest pay to continue to get pay rises equivalent to inflation. For those on average pay or above however the case for rises falls in proportion to their earnings.
The guidelines for local government pay increases across the country is 0.5%. KCC staff are receiving 1%. TDC, which is already hamstrung by its salary and related costs budget can apparently offer 1.75% for senior staff and 2% for all other staff, as well as massive increases for the corporate management team under the guise of regrading.
It is Dr Moores (who once told computer weekly "The efficiency of any technology or service is, I believe, inversely proportional to the size of the investment in the call centre or the chief executive’s salary." ) as "leader" of the committee that agreed this, that needs to justify the decision.

I recall a notice on the information board at Plessey Torpedos factory in 1989.

The company wished well to a senior executive who had left their employ.

The notice listed his achievements. "Significant contributions", "Immense and infectious enthusiasm", "innovated this and that not to mention the other", "Structured, embedded, work streamed, modernised and value added".

In fact there was not a single positive thing this Executive had not done.

The final line

"The company has no plans to recruit a replacement"

Ah that was the word I had been looking for "Indispensable" not.

As TDC introduces greater reward for its public sector parasites so also does Kent Police with its additional Assistant Chief constable post.

An outgoing Assistsnt Chief constable, Steve Harris, has done much towards furtherance of a new publicsectorese language.

Police interpreter please !

PS Did Steve Harris ever work for Plessey would you know ?

I know it's not the point of your post, Councillor, but I wonder why Simon Moores has to make every political point with a snide swipe at Labour or Labour members. Why refer to you as Comrade Councillor Green?

I realise there is very little locally for which the Tories can claim positive credit, but the fact that all his "points" are negative ones against Labour says a great deal. A spin doctor of the first order.

And then he has the cheek to suggest that the brickbats that fly towards him and his colleagues locally are linked to the - unacceptable - goings-on at advisor level in Downing Street.

I would suggest he looks at the way he and his fellow Tory bloggers behave and have behaved over the past 18 months - we all recall Moores's antics that almost led to the death of local blogging - and the sort of vile remarks they either make, or allow others to make, about Labour policy and Labour members. That is what lies behind the criticisms directed at them, nothing else.

Mind you, the man has a sense of humour - he refers to himself as formerly "left of centre". I'm still p***ing myself over that one.

And no, before one of his pet supporters weighs in, I am not a Labour councillor or Party member - just a voter.

I see that commentators - probably other Tory councillors - contributing to Moores's blog are repeating his lame line that those criticising the local Tory leadership are all Labour activists egged on by No.10.

Moores prints some rubbish but this just about takes the biscuit.

I am not a Labour activist. I think the Tory leadership locally is a disgrace. I - and others I know - visit local blogs to say so because it is one place where views can be expressed. You are criticised, Moores and co, because there is just cause for criticism. It is inspired by nothing more than a revulsion for what your "leaders" do and how they behave, and how they are dragging Thanet's reputation through the dirt.

I hope that is absolutely clear.
