Supression of Information by TDC?

The Agenda (see below) for the first meeting of the newly formed "General Purposes Committee", that Cllr Moores is already claiming to be chairing ( I just hope all his colleagues turn up to vote for him!) has just been published on the TDC website.
Only one item on the agenda "2009/10 pay negotiations proposals". What could this be that needs to be discussed in secret? Could it be the miserly 3% pay rise being offered to low paid Council staff, or could it be the increases that senior staff hope to gain from their recent "regrading" as Directors?

Either way, as shadow spokesperson for finance, you might think I would be allowed to know, even if the general public cant, what is being proposed.

If you are made chairman of this committee, Cllr Moores, this is not a very good way to begin its life.

As a Conservative i am shocked that the current ruling party need to form another committee - more expense, just to keep Cllr Moores busy? He said he couldnt run for leader as he already has plenty to do with a full time job, why fall for his leader's cheap political trick then? keep him busy so he doesnt cause trouble!
How on earth were salaries managed before in the last few years? As for Cllr Nottingham saying the council workers are low paid - they have a gold plated pension fund, ample holidays and job security, not many of the rest of us can boast those advantages in our jobs?
Time for an elected mayor!Get rid of the lot!

"...the public interest in maintaining the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosing the information."

That phrase keeps appearing in the reasons to exclude the public and press from discussions of public business. Who decides what is in the public interest? Can the decision makers be trusted to tell the difference between public interest and political convenience?

I have seen the proposals in this Agenda and have asked Cllr Moores if he will be voting against them. It remains to be seen if he (a posts my question and (b actually does vote against them!

I am all for transparency and openness, but shouldn't Committee business - especially likely voting intentions - be carried out by and within the Committee?

Seems to me that posting such thoughts and "takes" here is simply fuelling the usual Tory dogma and propaganda that is back to being the be-all-and-end-all of Councillor Moores' Thanet Life blog. It also, I fear, serves to fuel the disgusting and distasteful intellectual snobbery with which he posts his thoughts about Labour Councillors. He clearly believes he is the only Thanet Councillor with intellect, business experience and goodness knows what other skills, and makes disparaging refernces to others who dare to offer a view that contradicts his.

I wish you luck with his kind in the Chair.

It would be fair to point out that as an expert in everything, and having been in so many diverse careers; he is probably highly qualified to talk the bollocks that he does on Thanet life.

He has to blow his own trumpet as no-one else would be able to do him justice!

His (Councillor Moores that is)pomposity and boastfulness are irritating, I agree 18.21, and his claims of so many careers and achievements are simply staggering.

But what I find unnecessary and objectionable is the patronising and sneering way he passes comment about others. He disparages and demeans their views and contributions, and implies that no-one has anything like his experience and ability. It is just insulting.

It may not - yet - put him in breach of the Standards Committee his Tory cronies like so much but it does make him a thoroughly unlikeable character.

I pity the Councillors who must suffer him as a committee chair.

I assume that like the majority of people I've never met Cllr Moores. I've no idea of his career history but if it is as varied and successful as he says shouldn't we be happy to have him as a councillor? Why consider a lsit of facts as "boasting"?

Whether the committee will do a good job is for the future to tell.

You've missed his time in the Royal Marines...which he later qualified as the Royal Marines Reserves.

Is there a difference as they both do the same training?

Just stating a fact.

So we agree, he's done a lot, had some success and is now turning his hand to local politics. If he makes a positive difference, great, if he doesn't that will be sad but nothing in there seems untruthful or boastful.

Don't tell ECR that agreement has broken out among bloggers, especially about a cllrs background, his monocle would steam over!

Nobody has said there is anything untruthful in Moores's claims, but it is sad that anyone has to keep promoting himself in the way he does. And yes, his ramblings are full of boasts and patronsising, intellectual snobbery. If you think that's cool, fine, others don't.

Whatever, we shouldn't use this blog to give him additional publicity.

If you Google him then it's clear that he does not really have to promote himself at all. Perhaps we should just be pleased that a Thanet boy came home and decided to take an interest in local politics!

As for intellectual snobbery, anonymous 14:19 he is obviously up there with the also intellectual ECR and smarter than most and some people resent it.
