I was highly critical of the performance of Thanet Council's Planning department. Its performance in turning around planning applications was amongst the worst in the country and was the worst in Kent.
Well I'm pleased to report that according to the press release below, the situation has changed markedly.
What has changed?
Staff changes?, Cllr Kirby removed as Planning Chief?, A drop in number of applications?
Anyway, Well done!
Decisions on planning applications on the isle are among some of the fastest in the country. According to national figures monitoring performance, Thanet council’s team was in the top 25 per cent of all councils when it came to determining planning applications between April 2007 and March 2008.Two years earlier the council was among the worst-performing 25 per cent of all councils. Government targets state that major planning applications should be decided within 13 weeks and, in Thanet, 82 per cent were determined within that timescale. Minor applications and other decisions both have to be determined within eight weeks and Thanet decided on 86 per cent, which include housing developments up to 10 units, within the required time. For other decisions, which include household extensions, the figure was 94 per cent. When it comes to other planning decisions, the figures put Thanet into the top 50 in the country out of 360 authorities.

Thanks David
I thought most were decided before the application.
I see David is his usual embittered self - negative in thought, word and deed how he achieved a background in communication I will never know John Kirby
Is it any wonder why TDC is in such a state when our elected members feel the need to constantly bicker in public like half-cut teenagers ?
Come on. Get a grip and put some of this energy into improving the TDC "offer"
I am not surprised TDC improved. During that period some applications were not published on UKPlanning, some where decided before being published on UKPlanning and others decided before the end of the statutory consultation period. But Brian White claims no-one was disadvantaged. The Local Government Ombudsman did not agree and wrote to the Chief Executive.
