Labour has selected its candidates for Margate and Cliftonville who will fight the next county council elections next May. Party members voted unanimously to select current county councillor Clive Hart and district councillor Iris Johnston as their candidates. The pair have worked together as district councillors for many years and will represent Margate Central, Cliftonville West, Cliftonville East, Dane Valley and Salmestone if elected when the elections take place in 2009.

Not a massive suprize really. The two of them are surely front runners in the chase for the Labour slot to face Roger Gale in the next General Election. Noe one else really stands out as potential MPs.
Who? or do you mean windy gale, a man destined to leave no mark what so ever on the world.
With the thrashing the party got recently they have a battle ahead of them. Any idea how they plan to address that?
Given that Labour's chances of ousting the Conservatives in North Thanet in a good year would be virtually nil, I would be much happier to see a decent Conservative candidate to replace "windy gale" as Ian J calls him.
Matt, the answer is easy, it is all down to hard work and getting out on the doorstep. Both candidates have a excellent track record for representing the people who put them there.
It is the majority in a ward that have no party allegance at local elections and they tend not to vote. If they do vote it is normaly the person and not the party they vote for.For example Charlie Young always picked up that extra vote because of this factor.
Come to think of it, I know Clive Hart is the KCC Cllr for margate & cliftonville, does anyone know who the other one is.
Oh yes, Tony, me!
Chris, well it looks like you have a fight on your hands if you get reselected.Clive and Iris will never give up.
